Yolande Fièvre is a french painter and sculptor, born in Paris the 25th of January 1907 and deceased in Paris in 1982.

Young traveler, Fièvre visited America and will live in Egypt during a few years. She studied painting at the École des Beaux-Arts and the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris, later teacher at Orleans Fine-Arts Academy .In the 1930s she discovered Surrealism and met André Breton and consequently gave up landscape for automatism. Jean Paulhan, Bernard Requichot, Jean Dubuffet, Raymond Queneau were her friends.

 

A brilliant painter, she painted until the 1950s, then she offered her place to the object.

Fièvre began passionated researches and passionating experiments on material, often organic, giving a strange aspect to her reliefs.Her best-known work was made between the late 1950s and 1960s. These ‘box reliefs’ were constructed from fragments of wood, clay, and pebbles, sometimes inhabited by tiny figures, giving the impression of mysterious citiesThese reliefs are collages, or rather assemblies, where the objects are part of a mise-en-scene, some boxes-objects, or some kind of quite special reliquaries..The sense of worlds in miniature was something she shared with Bernard Réquichot, whose suicide made a profound impression upon her. After the death of her husband in 1968 she moved into a tiny apartment and had to assign the monkey which was her special companion to the zoo in Vincennes. (The zoo keeper became a closer friend than any of her art world contacts.)  

 

Her life is punctuated by precise steps but interfering with each other. 1933-1967: Automatic drawing and painting. 1957-1961: Large driftwoods, stone wrecks. 1961-1973: The Entrailles of Paris, the Stones, Lures, Traps, Statues, Cities, Baroque, Gloria, Horus, Eluales ... 1957-1973: Oniroscope, Densities, Colors, Silks, Abrasives, Silks onires. From 1957 personal exhibitions of the artist were presented by: Simone Collinet, Paris Daniel Cordier, Paris Svensk-Franska Konstgalleriet, Stockholm Galerie Gervis, Paris Galerie Bonnier, Genève Galerie Natalie Seroussi, Paris Galerie Nello Di Meo, Paris Peinture automatic.Her artistic activity diminished, but an exhibition at the Halles St Pierre in Paris in 2007 has contributed to a posthumous interest in her work.
