Exhibition catalogue

Catalogue includes works from the corresponding exhibition hosted at MOMus–Museum of Modern Art. Alexis Gritchenko, born in Ukraine and trained in Kyiv and Saint Petersburg alongside avant-garde artists, was a painter and art theorist who connected the power of Fauvism, Cubism, and Futurism with Byzantine tradition. His stay in Greece between 1921 and 1923 was pivotal for his artistic development. He travelled through Athens, Mystras, Delphi, Olympia, Crete, Thessaloniki, and the islands, capturing nature and monuments in the dazzling Mediterranean light. The exhibition and its accompanying catalogue bring together, among other works, many pieces from his Greek period sourced from museums and private collections, presenting them alongside earlier and later works by the artist.
